I am an expert programmer in C and C++. I tried to learn Go with other books, but they use examples that are overly complex.Introducing Go is an excellent introduction, because it gives simple examples of each concept in a logical progression. This enables the author to cover a lot of ground quickly and clearly, so the pages turn quickly and I remember the concepts after the first reading. This is how I would summarize the concepts for myself.
This is a good book. The earlier free on-line version helped get me started in the language. I bought this copy mainly to support the author as I appreciated his free on-line content. I also lend this out when someone is interested in getting started in Go.
Bought it to support the author. I feel like I need to read it again because I have no familiarity with strongly typed programming languages like this.This book is far easier to understand than some of the other books on Go that I’ve seen but I don’t really know where to go next. I am not a great programmer. I have something I want to write in Go but it will take a few additional resources before I find my footing.Also, this book could have used a chapter on the Go toolset. Clocking in at just around 100 pages, there could be more documentation on “go build,†“go get,†etc.
Very good concise introduction to Go. I've read a handful of Go books and this is one of the best introductions.I recommend this book as a first read that will enable you to understand other texts like "Go In Action" or "The Go Programming Language"
"Introducing Go" does exactly what the title says; it introduces the Go programming language. Caleb's writing style is easy to understand. The examples are clear and convey the point. If you have programmed in any C based language before "Introducing Go" will quickly get you up to speed. You do not need to be an expert coder to learn Google's new systems programming language. Highly recommended!
A decent overview of programming basics in the Go language, however you never build a modern functional app (ie: a simple rest api) with this book. A more project based approach would have helped IMO.
The previous review is rather short-sighted. I find this book quite refreshing really. Sweet, short, and to-the-point. That is why the book is titled 'Introducing Go.' It makes no pretense of being an intermediate to advanced text. I think the author succeeds quite well in introducing the core concepts of Go.
Very well written. Good for beginner programmers and experienced coders looking to learn new syntax and style.
