Really good transcriptions of his solos. Legible and written as played by Stan. The songbook is what it claims to be and I find no fault in the transcriptions. What was horrible was that the book arrived unbound with the black plastic binding unraveled and some of the pages loose and out of order. I had a fun time putting all the pages in numerical order. Once that was done (and it still does not hold together as it should) I found no problem turning pages or finding the tunes I wanted. If it wasn't for the unbound pages, I would have easily rated this 5 stars.
A preliminary investigation revealed that SUMMERTIME is from the Nobody Else but Me studio session with Gary Burton and not the more lively Cafe Au Go Go performance. NIGHT AND DAY with Bill Evans is repeated from a previous Stan Getz book. CON ALMA is not from Sweet Rain but from Yours and Mine, late in his career with Kenny Barron. WHERE OR WHEN, melody and solo in key of F from Award Winner is good for all levels of play and is alone worth the price of the book, less expensive than a personal transcription.LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE melody and solo, in Bb from The Steamer should be good for all levels too.BAHIA from Jazz Samba with Charlie Byrd is included, with Stan playing backgrounds to Charlie Byrd's untranscribed melody on the first half of the bridge, along with Desafinado, One Note Samba and Samba Dees Days from the same album.
I gave 5 stars but the book does not have pages between 13 and 38. Transcriptions are great.
What can you say about Stan Getz... he's Stan Gets and the book has it all.
Than the pleasure of discovering these beautiful improvised melodies!
This is fantastic, worth every cent, very accurate transcriptions but for me the songs are very hard me being a freshman in HS.
