I just finished Charlie and Cliff's wonderful book! As a die hard Dallas cowboy fan, this book brought back so many wonderful memories when football was really football...when Tom Landry had instilled honor, teamwork and dignity to his team and the sport! We don't see that anymore and I miss this bygone era! The book is very cleverly witty and am happy to see that my 2 favorite all time players are as talented off the field as they were on it! Thank you for making some of my most cherished childhood memories! I sent this to my mom ,who was as big a fan as i was , to enjoy the nostalgic stories they brought to life in this book! If my dad and younger brother were still with us, they would have loved this read! If you love truth, justice and the American way, you will love these stories written by my two favorite super heros from America's Team!
Very good book if you have been a past or current Cowboys fan. I grew up rooting for the Cowboys. Harris and Waters were two of my favorites. They both tell their story of what it was like to play for the Cowboys and in the NFL in the 70's. They tell how they got there, About what it was like to play for Landry and other assorted stories that are mostly humorous about their playing days. I would recommend this book to any 70's Cowboy fans.
Charlie Waters and his brother Keith were friends of mine in college. But my reason for buying this book was my then-six-year-old son's fierce loyalty to the Cowboys of Charlie's era while he was growing up. Charlie's and Cliff's humor, recollection of detail, and competitiveness combine to make for very pleasurable reading, and I hope my now-45 son enjoys it as much as I did.
I haven't finished this yet, but I'm enjoying it a lot. All told, this isn't the best written book, as it's more like a series of disconnected blurbs, but the stories themselves are good and sometimes enlightening. It provides an interesting and appreciated window into the Dallas Cowboys of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Another great book about the Dallas Cowboys written by Captain Crash himself, Cliff Harris. If you're a Cowboys fan you'll love the stories from a player's viewpoint experiencing it first hand.
My sons and family were fans of Cliff and Charlie during their career with TL and the Cowboys. Even non-Cowboy fans (if there are any left) can learn of their unique method of communication on the field as conditions change.
This arrived very quickly and in perfect condition! I have it to a grandson, who is a Cowboys fan. It made a very nice gift for a small price.
I enjoyed this book tremendously. It has some good insights and great stories from the Cowboys' early glory years. I was always a fan of Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters, so their stories were quite interesting. They have some good anecdotes about playing for Tom Landry, and about other players, both on the Cowboys and on opposing teams. The stories are fun to read. There were only two issues I have with the book. The first is how the narrative switches back and forth between Cliff and Charlie with no way to identify the author (until he talks about the other one). I would have liked if there was something identifying whose story was being told at the beginning of the chapters.Toward the end of the book, Charlie tells about the 1982 game against the 49ers, in which Dwight Clark made "The Catch". There is supposed to be a photo of Charlie after Clark scores the touchdown, but the photo is of Drew Pearson after the "Hail Mary" pass from Roger Staubach against the Vikings years earlier. All in all, a quick and fun read, especially for Cowboys fans.
