FROMMER'S EASYGUIDE TO SEATTLE, PORTLAND & THE OREGON COAST is a great book about Western Oregon and the Seattle-Tacoma area. It discusses the history of both regions and is chock-full of everything you need to know about recreation, dining, sightseeing, shopping, and nightlife in both areas. In addition, there are timelines for the histories of these areas from when they were founded to the present. If you're interested in the Pacific Northwest in particular, or in ANY area with a tendency to root for good against evil, DO NOT PASS THIS BOOK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
